Quality of Life Advisors

Quality of Life Advisors
is a program offered by A Better Way Home, LLC. This educational outreach program has been created to help patients, and families of patients, understand the various options that are available to them as they navigate their way through a life-limiting illness. We recognize that not all patients with a life-limiting illness are going to need hospice, but most patients will require some kind of additional support as their illness progresses. Perhaps Home Care, Home Health or Palliative Care (comfort care) would be more appropriate at the time. Regardless of the services needed, it is our goal to help patients and families identify the best services for their particular situation and diagnosis, in order to preserve the highest quality of life possible going forward.

When a patient is told they have a life-limiting illness, there are so many questions that need to be answered, but few come to mind during the doctor’s visit. Just understand-ing the illness itself may be overwhelming, resulting in countless hours of research on the internet. Then trying to understand the various types of services available to care for the patient as the illness or disease progresses is another level of information that can become a tremendous burden when added to the already overwhelming information on the disease. Most people do not understand the difference between Home Care and Home Health. They may have misconceptions about Hospice or Palliative Care, and who can access these levels of care at what point in the disease process. Our expert staff will guide the patient and/or their family through the various levels of care, when each level of care is appropriate, and how to access the best care possible. Information will also be made available about payer sources and what will be covered by insurance, versus private pay. We are here to eliminate as much stress as possible by informing and empowering our clients so they can be assured of maintaining the highest quality of life, for the rest of their life.

This program is of particular interest and benefit to physicians who are seeking additional support for their patients at this pivotal time. Many physicians lack the resources needed to offer this type of educational program for their patients. Once contacted by the patient or family – whether it is through a physician referral or independently - we encourage ongoing, open communication with the patient’s physician. We do all we can to elevate the level of understanding of the illness or disease process for the family, and work to help them access the best, most appropriate level of care to meet their needs.
A Better Way Home, LLC is pleased to offer this educational outreach program free of charge to anyone in the community who would like more information about the various options in care available to those with a life-limiting illness.
